From the designer of the original AC Cobra, which will surely remain the ultimate motoring weapon of all time, came in 1968 the Dax Tojeiro, again from a design by racer John Tojeiro. This was to be a replica of the AC, but on steroids. Several other copies were attempted, with all manner of power units from the Rover (Buick) 3.5 litre V8 to the Jaguar V12, yet Dax remains a favoured gateway into dreamland. Just to look at this car produces an adrenaline rush of excitement and not a little terror, and to drive it has to be on the bucket list of every true petrol- head.

At a cost of £55,000 to build, plus work carried out in the current ownership amounting to some £14,000, this really is a superstar of a sports car. Originally ordered in 2003, the project was finished in 2007 with all parts invoices retained, and registered for the road accordingly. Stunning in Sebring Metallic with a black Muirhead leather interior, the high specification included 17 inch Halibrand Alloy wheels, a Willans four point harness, twin roll hoops, Dax Big Bore four-into-one stainless steel side pipes, a four barrel Holley carburettor, a full chrome pack, wing wings and sun visors, a fully lined and polished and detailed engine bay, alloy water tank fluid containers and engine header tank, an Edelbrock intake and an under belly guard. The tyres and brakes were all replaced in 2015/16.

The vendor, himself a Superbike race mechanic, purchased the Dax in 2016 for just under £40,000, and a programme of serious mechanical restoration and upgrades commenced. Work by Roadcraft of Shoreham included the fitting of a new (second generation) Edelbrock high performance Chevrolet 350 engine and a Tremec TKO600 gearbox. The fitting of other notable replacements / upgrades included: a modified and improved shortened prop shaft, a TSP pro billet distributor SBC and coil, a heat shield set, a new bonnet, gas struts, and an alloy filter king fuel pressure regulator and gauge etc… We are informed that the engine and gearbox have travelled less than 1000 miles.

The extensive history supplied with the Dax includes the aforementioned build invoices, the 2003 order confirmation from Dax, Dax price lists, correspondence, build photographs, MOT test certificates, the purchase invoice from 2016, an HPI check (clear) from the same year, a file of mechanical and wiring diagrams and information sheets (appertaining to the current ownership), all invoices from the current ownership, an older V5C, the current V5C registration certificate and others.
